Shameless Plug For Sarah’s Wedding Site

I guess there comes a time in everyone’s life where we must pimp ourselves out a bit to our friends, or vice versa, well, that’s pretty much exactly what Sarah Wainwright asked of me when I did the little plug for her site the other day. We were at dinner and basically I was very impressed with everything that she was doing and the dedication that she had been giving to her site and when I had mentioned that I was stuck in a rut on writing mine then she had chirped in what a great opportunity for me to get back in the game by giving her a nice write up. Yeah, I guess when we have blogs just starting up we all need the help that we can get. So, in exchange I also mentioned that I would be submitting my wedding to her site once it is all up and running full steam. She’s doing real weddings like some many other sites, but I get to showcase mine as one of the first posts. Sweet.

So, follow Sarah on twitter… and then submit your wedding.

Hitting Up A Wedding In Miami, Maybe Get A Tan?

Not that I’m having trouble writing about anything in particular, but this has been such a very long and cold winter that I find it someone ironic that and individual such as myself who is writing about travel hasn’t really been giving all of that much thought to and therefore posting anything about places he might be thinking about visiting – ie. getting out of the cold. Meh, well. I guess I do need to spend a bit more time here. I have a friends wedding coming up, in about two weeks and we are off to Florida, not a wow destination for a wedding, but it does mean I’ll get a little sun in and hopefully a bit of a tan – I thought however as a side note maybe then I would turn those who may have any ideas or more specifically need inspiration for their own wedding plans to head over to a site I stumbled across the other day – go and check out A Cake And Wine For Wedding Venues… has some interesting ideas and great listings.

I’ll Be Back…

Eh, sorry it’s been a little while since my last post, been busy, mostly fighting the flu and then getting everyone in the house sick with it also. How much fun is that – big sniffling sneezing stuffed up mess. Just wanted to post really quickly that I haven’t forgotten about my site here and will return soon with more photos and poor commentary.

Tesla Model S Obsession

Yes, well it was only a matter of time until I started writing / writing more on my obsession with the Tesla Model S and electric vehicles in general. 2013 and the later half of 2012 were great years for Tesla – in 2012 the company, and it’s Model S sedan won every great award in the automotive industry, best car, etc. 2013 the company had a meteoric rise in it’s stock price, so much so that Elon Musk was able to float another share offering and pay off the whole government loan ahead of schedule. It’s hard to imagine anyone as more of a poster child for unbridled success as Musk – good for him.

Now, as for the rest of who are dying for a Tesla car – well we may have to wait until a cheaper model comes out and even then have to wait until more electric vehicle charging stations come on line so that we don’t have to worry about range anxiety, but until them, I’ll be keeping an eye on the company and marveling when I see them on the road. Keeping fingers crossed to win the lottery.

Wondering The South Of France

Every travel site on the internet and I mean every one, has their little post about their travels in the south of france – for some reason it seems to be just about everyone’s dream destination – I don’t know exactly why, although the sun, the food, the general ambiance certainly plays a big part, but it probably also has to do with the collective imagery that we all have in our minds – grand hotels, monte carlo, cannes film festival, greek shipping magnates, russian oligarchs, james bond, david niven… well, I’ve fallen for it all. As I had in a previous post, obviously traveled through Provence… but I’ve also had the pleasure of hitting up Nice, Cannes and Antibes all three of which are right next to each other, easy for a quick road trip between them all. While it’s probably a bit pricey for most people as a hotel, having a lunch at the Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc in Antibes should satisfy every craving for soaking up that feel of being a celeb – it is the favored haunt of every movie mogul and actor at the film festival. Although be careful, the hamburger at the outdoor grill will set you back about $50.

Bahamas Awesome

Just got back from the bahamas (paradise island to be exact, lots of islands down there so have to be specific) and wanted to write a quick post. If you’re reading this little blog here, considering how small it is then odds are you are not here for a history lesson on the bahamas or a travel guide, but what I can offer to you as a travel tip… and this is worth the price of admission alone – september, great time to go to paradise island. Seriously. yes it’s rainy season, yes it’s still hurricane season. but it’s tropical, which means the rain comes in fits and spurts, for most of the day it sunny and beautiful, the water is warm and guess what, since it’s after labor day, when all of the kiddies go back to school and the parents are settling back in to work post summer laziness, the resorts are almost empty!!! One & Only Ocean Club, empty, Atlantis, empty. Room rates down, availability up. Just saying, next september you might want to thin about taking that last long weekend.

Amazing Architecture

As a frequent traveler and general roadtrip type I spend a quite a bit of time exploring new cities – regardless of where I am I prefer to walk, it gives you exercise and provides a hands on, ground level view of what is happening all around you (I also happen to love renting a bike for those places that are a little more spread out). Spending time on the ground, means also looking up to take in the sights of the town you’re in.
I love New York, I love the action and adventure in this first of all amazing urban jungles – I also happen to really appreciate all of the amazing building to be found all along the upper east and upper west sides. Great attention to detail and beautiful craftsmanship. I’ve managed to stumble on to a wonder website that has some fantastic pictures of some of the buildings all along park and fifth from some of the great pre-war architects – candela, bing and bing, carpenter – 800 park avenue is a building that stands out in that it’s architects were litchefield and Rogers, of which there is very little info available. While 740 park is one of Candela’s most famous buildings, I happen to think 960 Fifth Avenue is much more interesting and the twins at 770 park avenue and 778 park avenue showcase his true talent, side by side.

So, if you love great architecture and you can’t make it to NYC any time soon and you want to wander around cyberspace with some great views of NYC classic architecture – the links above are a great start. Enjoy.

A Note On Becoming Bilingual

Great photo and entertaining post which I thought might be a good re-blog to save for myself. Thanks.

Travels in Transit...

So, as I’ve mentioned in my last post, I’ve become determined to grasp a really good understanding of the Spanish language.  I have some previous education with the language, and although it was eight years ago since my last Spanish class, there are some things that I haven’t forgotten.  The most important skill which I’ve held onto was ‘pronunciation’.

Based on that, it’s been making the learning process a whole lot easier.  New words stick quicker, and once I repeat them a few times out loud, they ‘usually’ roll off the tongue.  However, this isn’t to say that I’ll be bilingual in a few short weeks at all.

I’ve been studying really, really, really hard.  As in, 4-6 hours a day.  I’ve been immersing myself with the language as much as possibly while currently residing in an English speaking country.  Thankfully, there’s a large population of people from Santo Domingo…
